Did Mitchum tank Rory’s fellowship opportunity?
Upon my thousandth and umpteenth rewatch of the series, on one of the later episodes of season 7 “It’s like riding a bike,” I realized Mitchum very likely was the reason Rory didn’t get the Reston fellowship.
In a random scene of Paris getting accepted to all the graduate programs of her dreams.. leading to a discussion of Rory’s choice to bank on the New York Times fellowship instead of accepting a steady writing job a bunch of random previous scenes clicked together in my mind to lead to this conclusion.
Just a couple of episodes before this, Logan finally had escaped from under Mitchum’s thumb to “be the man Rory deserves” and Mitchum knew she was up for the fellowship and had set the expectation that they would “plan his next steps” during Logan’s birthday dinner.
Then right after Logan leaves his father’s company Rory is waiting anxiously to hear back from the fellowship and of course doesn’t get it.
I don’t know why I never considered the timing of it all, but suddenly, it totally makes sense that he would derail it again out of spite or to manipulate Logan back to the comfort of working under his wing.
Idk was this super obvious subtle plot point that I somehow missed and everyone else caught on to right away?
