Younger folks and corkscrews

Hello, good people of Reddit who are aging like me (born 1967 as you might infer).

So the other day we had a work event, a welcome party for a sizable group. I was the host. The two younger people (less than half my age/our age) had to tend bar. They could not open the wine bottles.

One explained to me they didn't know how to use a corkscrew. They both went to college. I was, to be honest, baffled by this lack of knowledge. I showed them. I don't think it stuck, since I infer they just drink screw-top wine (or box) and not much of that either.

I am just sharing. I had no idea.

Relatedly, I was at an outdoor concert. I went to the bar to order a drink. It had some fanciful name. I said to the bartender, does this have booze in it? She said, I don't understand. Guy working next to her said, she's young (must have been 21 to be doing the job); he said, I'm 27, I know the word -- you mean alcohol, right?

It's so weird.

Last anecdote. My nephew is 19. He's at university in England (his mother is from London). He doesn't drink. My brother keeps trying to get him to drink His wife, my sister in law, just rolls her eyes at the notion she has a husband who is trying to get their son to consume alcohol.

I guess kids don't drink booze (alcohol).
