Auto / adaptive brightness

What's your experience with adaptive brightness on base s23?

For me it has been disheartening. The device doesn't seem to learn the usage patterns at all.

In complete darkness by default it is too bright so I bring it down a bit. However this makes the screen much darker in conditions with more ambient light and so I adjust it by bringing up a little. And all that does is again make it too bright in absolute darkness.
