The dog in the series

I noticed not many are paying attention to the dog, be was there since the beginning, and yet we still dont know why is be there and to whom he belongs back in season 1 when boyd was exploring the woods it was the dog who approached him and showed signs of domestication bfr running into the forest and leading to boyd getting trapped in the forest to find the talismans later, and so wev seen the dog many times bfr that and after that. That dog has to be part of this puzzle !
