Had to change our move in date because the sellers wanted to save $10 on water
We closed today and planned on moving tomorrow. When we went to transfer our water last week, our county's water management services told us we needed to close first before they could make the transfer.
Since we were closing on a Friday before the holiday weekend, we freaked out and immediately notified our realtor on Monday. She slacked off and didn't tell the seller's realtor until Thursday (yesterday). The seller's realtor then communicated that the seller was already planning on turning off the water Friday. We then asked if they could give us a break and wait a week to turn off the water. The seller's realtor, apparently operating under the assumption that the sellers were cheap assholes and wouldn't show us some grace, brushed us off and told us it would be fine as long as we got to the water services place after closing today to show them our settlement statement.
We rushed to the county water office after closing. Sure enough, the county informed us that they would not be able to send a technician out the same day and we would have to wait until Tuesday. It's not the end of the world because we live close by and can slowly move things over now that we have closed, but we had to cancel and reschedule the move truck in addition to a few other contractors who were going to help us mount our TVs etc.
The funny thing is that literally 3 different random bystanders waiting at the county water office overheard us and made comments to the effect of "Holy crap! How rude! When we sold our home we waited a week to turn off our water". Kind of annoyed with our realtor/the sellers/the sellers' realtor for brushing us off, but the kind strangers at the county's water's office made us feel better. Sigh.
Edit:It especially stung because we literally showed the sellers an email from the water services company pretty much saying that it would take a few days to process our application, so it wasn't like they in good faith thought we would be fine. They just frankly didn't give a shit.
