Did anyone else make this mistake when playing XII for the first time?

When I first played XII, I thought the Ally:Any gambit meant that they would just constantly do the action regardless of conditions. For example, I thought Ally:Any = Potion would mean even idle out of battle that character would be constantly chucking pointless potions.

Due to my poor understanding, I thought to have a reviving gambit I needed Ally: Status = KO - Raise/Phoenix Down, thinking Ally:Any - Raise/Phoenix Down would waste my MP/items with the character constantly chucking them.

Turns out Ally:Any does also respect if that action is necessary, so it works for status curing/reviving etc.

Ally:Status = KO wasnt available until Balfonheim in the PS2 version and so I had to manually revive for 4/5 of the game.

Did anyone else make this blunder?
