SD Card Full

I want to format my SD card to continue using it (duh). I'm copying everything to an external hard drive. Do I copy everything or just the videos themselves? In the SD card, there are folders like THMBNL, LUT, XML files for each clip, etc. Does all that need to be copied, too, or do I just take the videos from the CLIP folder?
