Editing files

So I've recently been editing files on this game and following steam guides to help me do it. I just wanted more gold to help me buy things to get hearts pretty fast. Recently with the September 11 patch, the game files on "saves" have been converted into .sav files for me. I cannot acces them anymore since there's bianary code or something. Neither can I access the player.json file which allowed me to get that gold. I dont want to install any mods to help me or a modder programm since editing .json files had been working good so... Where have the files gone? How do I edit the .sav files? And did they change forever? Can anyone help me?
