I want a new fantasy series to binge, please help me pick my next book as I'm in a bad rut.

I haven't finished a book in three months and the last ones I finished were the Powder Mage books. I'm kind of looking for something epic and dark and whilst I did start reading some series none are hitting me. Or more accurately I'm finding any excuse to not read them.

I dropped Licanius trilogy 50 pages in because it felt too rushed and I couldn't connect with any of the characters at all.

I tried reading Falcon Throne by Karen Miller but I can't get over all the expository dialogue that makes everyone sound melodramatic; I find it boring.

Then I tried reading Soul of the World and Legacy of Ash,two books I was really excited for, but I don't know if it's my current mental state but I can't keep track of all the fantasy names in Legacy and I was finding Soul's use of magic a bit too much for me.

The only book that gripped me lately has been Assassins Apprentice. The character work is truly amazing and so is the prose, but I have a feeling I will only read the first book because 16 books is a bit too much for me. I am scared quite frankly of reading too long series but this is one I might stick out with.

Most of all, I want to read a new series to help me escape from this world and to help me write my book. The book I'm writing is a fantasy story that invovles a setting with no magic and has a lot of politics and adventure. On the other hand, some of my favorite series were the Warlord Chronicles, Faithful and the Fallen, Under the Northern Sky and Empire of the Wolf while my favorite standalones are Shadow of the Wind, Angel's Game, Wolf and the Watchmen and Vivia. The last two I would list as my two favorite books of all time ever as they have three things I love: great prose, themes of sex and violence and an ever growing sense of dread.

I tried and definitely do not wish to read the following series: Song of Ice and Fire (I love the characters, setting and fandom, I just don't have time for them), anything related to the First Law (I just can't get into them) or anything by Neil Gaiman. I hate American Gods.
