Paddock boots or tall boots?

I’m starting lessons up again and thought I had everything I needed except the paddock boots I ordered ended up being way too small. It got me thinking if they would have even been the correct boot to wear for lessons. What’s the difference between the two and how do I measure to make sure I’m getting one that actually fits?
