Your R&D Process?
I feel like I'm way out of balance with "Research & Development" and my "methods" need a lot of improvement and tweaks.
- I'm super backlogged in the creation of digital projects
- I get consumed in these projects and so it's hard to sit down and focus on strategy, competitive analysis, researching/learning about business and the subject matter more (I never went to business school so I have to try to learn organically)
Does anyone have a process for this? e.g.
How much of your time and what % of your time is spent on:
- Strategizing vs
- Researching / Consuming Info & Content vs
- Doing the Action / Building Products etc
How do you organize this? Is there a hierarchy to your process e.g. researching trends vs researching market vs updating your old strategy / adapting, etc etc
Any books or digital tools you rec'm for this to improve efficiency on this? I use Confluence and Jira to try to organize stuff, but I feel like like my priorities are out of wack on the what and how much I choose to consume, how much / what portion of time is spent researching vs actually developing. I just need a better direction, system, methods, prioritization formula, etc.
It's a tricky balance because too much strategizing = not enough action, and jumping into action with no good gameplan could be a lot of work that goes in the wrong direction if the strategy isn't a good one or well-researched.
Thanks!
