Civil or mechanical??
which one should I choose, civil or mechanical engineering?
I recently finished my second year in civil engineering with really good grades but I am thinking of switching.
1) Mobility matters to me a lot and in civil engineering, there is this whole PE thing which is very important for civil engineers, but is it really a complication in moving from one country to the other, especially from Canada to the USA? Is mechanical engineering better for mobility? I want to leave Canada and at the same time have more city choices to live in
2) Salary matters to me if the difference is a lot, for example, if the difference after 5 years of experience is 30-50 thousand then it is a decision-changing factor. Indeed numbers and similar websites have both at same salary average but people say civil get underpaid, is this true and why? It seems that in mechanical I can get into oil and gas and pick up a special skill where I can make a lot of money out of it, is this true or is it only 5% of people?
3) I want to work in real estate development or open my own company. In civil it seems that I can use it to become a real estate developer or open a construction company or consultant firm. However, I don't what type of bussniss I can open in mechanical engineering degree
4) I like both of them and they both seem to be good, However, I'm confused about which one I should choose especially since many people shit on civil which is what made me think of switching.
Which one do you think I should choose
