Lots of buyers suddenly changing their mind - what to do?

I’m selling a bunch of old toys (vintage/80s action figures) for a friend. I listed maybe 30-40 items at auction and they all finished late last night.

Since then I’ve had five people contact me with varying degrees of sob story about why they can’t pay so can I please cancel their order. These range from simply “I changed my mind” (then why were you still putting in new bids close to the end time???) to “my son took my phone to bid and I didn’t realise, I can’t afford it” (your son took your phone at 10pm to bid on some super obscure toy from the 1980s AND you can’t afford £20???)

I’m going to cancel their orders (eventually - they can sweat first) because I don’t have a choice really, but it drives me nuts. These auctions have tonnes of photos, clear descriptions, there’s no question of what you’re bidding on and the state it’s in - so why have SO MANY people pulled out? I’m partly venting but I do also want to know the answer to the question. Can I do anything to stop this?

Furthermore, if anyone knows what my best course of action is with regards to the state of my account versus theirs, let me know. I’m concerned if I cancel their wins that’ll count against me. Either way I’ll be blocking them all so that they can’t mess me around in future, I just wish there was a way to warn other sellers too.
