Dog got his first heartworm treatment shot and won’t stop crying.

He got the shot Thursday morning, and it’s Saturday noon now, the vet said the heartworms were worse than they thought so it’s been strict kennel rest for him.

He isn’t normally kennelled so he hates it and want to be right next to us, but when he let him out and try to get him to lay down with us on the couch he wants to just walk around restlessly and stare at us, so we have to put him back in.

He’ll cry even when we’re in the room three feet from him. If we leave the room together for too long he howls. His Kong (which he normally loves) only placates him until he’s done and then start whining again, or he’ll just whine through the kong . I’ve tried soft music, opening the window that’s next to him, he just wants out and to walk around. He’s on a sedative and they gave us another one to give optionally, it didn’t work last night.

Another thing is we have a cat and they like to chase each other, otherwise we wouldn’t mind him walking around, but the risk is too great.

He still has a fentanyl patch that we’re supposed to take off tomorrow, will taking it off reduce his discomfort from the loopiness and calm him down? Any other advice on how to calm him down?
