Would gods/celestials remember creatures eaten by a false hydra?

I'm planning a campaign with my bf's friend, who is an experienced dm from what I can pick up. I am not. While I'm absolutely no stranger to dnd, I am not afraid to admit I don't have any actual dm experience. Role-playing, sure, but not dming.

The idea for this is supposed to be a twist around the middle or endish where the party finds out that they had an animal/life based cleric in the beginning who was eaten by the false hydra, but no one has memories of her, of course. Her goddess/gf, who doesn't know how she died but knows she's dead, is furious that the party isn't showing grief or even acknowledgement for her absence and is actively out to punish/retaliate against them for "not caring about her", and wanting them to suffer as much as possible for it.

Would this work, or do gods forget ppl after they're eaten too?
