My humble opinion on DACA

For the past few weeks I’ve been really diving deep on daca and every hearing and ruling since 2012, and also listening to Trump’s speeches in his 2016, 2020 and 2024 campaign. My take away is he was very much more lenient and accepting of daca and its recipients in 2016 and a little even in 2020 than he is now. I don’t think he’s even mentioned it in his campaign this year. From my research, these are all quotes from him: “Great heart, great love for them”-2017 “Republicans are with you”-2018 “We are going to take care of daca”-2020 “We are working very hard on the daca program and I think you’ll be happy over the course of the next year” -2020.

Unfortunately, nothing has changed due to congress not being able to settle on something. Present day, it doesn’t seem to look too good for daca but I’m an optimist and I firmly believe (and hope) that the dreamer/daca will be ruled in favor of soon. I also believe that it’s a political leverage each party uses to gain votes, granted it’s been going on for almost 24 years now, but that’s neither here nor there.

I also wanted to add that I am not a daca recipient, I was part of the group that was cut off due to the ruling in 2018, the year I turned 15. I am 21 now. I believe if a ruling does go in favor for daca, that won’t include me and my fellow people who didn’t meet the deadline. But nonetheless, it will be a victory I will cheer but crave to taste. Much love for this community 💙 ánimo.
