How to feed a lot of cultists

In any base/city/colony builder game I’m a resource hoarder so I’m curious what are your guys’ preferred methods of feeding cults with thirty and up members? What I’ve tried is loading the cookhouse with two star recipes but also I feel like I’m using resources faster than gathering them.
