A few ways to combat negative emotions during the dip.
I've been through stock market crashes, housing collapses, and crypto downfalls. They all suck, but they do pass and can lead to great success if properly handled. I want to share some things that have kept me sane and focused over the years; hopefully, they can help you get through whatever negative emotions you may be feeling.
- Exercise: I can't stress the importance of exercise enough. It clears the mind, helps you focus on your strength and endurance, and gets you out of your overactive brain.
- Sobriety: We make bad decisions when our minds are filled with malted hops and bong resin. What may seem like self-medicating your anxiety is, in fact, increasing it.
- Read "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius: I refer to this book in times of confusion, pain, or strife. Oh, the absolute depth of his words. "Concentrate on what you have to do. Fix your eyes on it. Remind yourself that your task is to be a good human being; remind yourself what nature demands of people. Then do it, without hesitation, and speak the truth as you see it. But with kindness. With humility. Without hypocrisy." - Marcus Aurelius
- Touch Grass: Get out into nature, if you can, get away from technology for a minute, see how everything is connected in the most perfect and beautiful way. Breathe in the fresh air, take off your shoes and socks and let your feet touch the earth. Unclench your jaw, release the tension from your shoulders and exhale the worry.
- Help Someone: Give someone a helping hand, someone you see struggling or in pain. It doesn't have to be monetary, just a simple check-in or visit. Tell someone you care about them, or you miss them. Write someone a letter or a postcard. Hug someone. Hold the door open for a stranger. It feels good to stop focusing on our issues and project our energy in a kind and loving way.
Anyway, these are just some of the things that help me. I'd love to hear what works for you, how you positively cope with negative emotions. I know it's a lifelong lesson, but: "When you stop growing, you start dying." ― William S. Burroughs
