[CHAT]- Thread Waste and organization

Hello! I am pretty new to cross stitch, so I've been buying kits. I noticed most of the time, i have to go and buy more thread from what's included because I waste so much. The current method I use is taking one thread and folding in half to make 2 threads. I then cut that in half. So now I have 2 strands of threads, but each half the length of the original. I then fold 1 of the 2 strands in half to make it into 2 threads so I can start my cross stitch. Sometimes this is enough thread and sometimes it isn't. When  it is enough, I cut off what I have left. What I have left I can use again for a small amount of cross stitches or I need to throw into my waste pile. After a while the waste pile adds up for the colors. Enough where i could have multiple threads. How do I minimize thread waste? Am I using the wrong technique. When you have "shorter" length threads you can use again, how do you organize those? I can't tie them back to my bobbin, so I start making piles of left over thread by color. As you can imagine, with multiple colors, this gets to be chaotic. Thanks everyone for the insight! Cross stitching is so fun, but it just gets get chaotic for me, making it become stressful!
