Healthcare professionals of CT, what is wrong with MidState? Nurse friends all say to go to Yale, UConn instead

Last weekend a family member had a medical emergency that our nurse friends all advised was bad enough for an ambulance trip. As a state we have lots of hospitals and options, but MidState is much closer. Like 20 minutes vs. 30+ minutes for others. Each one of them said to go to Yale, or UConn Health or even Hartford if given the option by the ambulance crew. We chose to go to Yale, as that is where we've always done everything.

The ambulance crew grumbled a bit, said it added 30+ minutes round trip onto this call since we were at the opposite end of town from Yale. That if this was any other kind of emergency they'd be going to MidState.

So my question for the healthcare pros of CT, why would 100% of the nurse friends we called recommend other facilities over MidState? (I will ask them next time I can also) Do you feel the same way?
