“ Support is easier and requires less skill in 6v6 “

Firstly, im a top500, masters support player if that’s relevant.

I have heard so many people saying that support in 6v6 is much easier and requires less skill, and i think it’s just a massive oversight by the community.

Just because 5v5 REQUIRES you to not healbot doesn’t make it harder. It makes it easier by taking away the decision from your hands and essentially giving you the tools to get free offensive value without nearly as much risk.

What’s harder - being told as a support, that you NEED to play off angles and get aggressive value or having the choice to decide what play to make?

It’s obviously the second. In 6v6, you had to choose whether you want to take a risk by off angling and going for aggressive plays. But you also got rewarded it. That decision making is what requires skill.

Throwing the 3 man nade on their backline doesn’t require skill. What requires skill is getting to the point where you have access to their backline to land a nade. Taking position is the part that needs skill. Knowing when to go aggressive, when to risk your life or risk your frontline getting run over to make plays

5v5 gives you the off angle for relatively free most of the times without a second tank and also has countless “free value” buttons that require little to no decision making to get value from.

Yes, most support players were healbots in 6v6. That doesn’t make the support role ‘easier’. That just means most people didn’t know how to play the role properly. If anything it makes it harder, because supports weren’t being babied and forced into the aggressive playstyle.

In 5v5, most heroes have a linear one dimensional playstyles. There are not as many options, usually just 1 correct one. There are 2 less tanks on the field you have to take into account. That inherently makes positioning and decision making easier. 5v5 has a single raid boss tank. That inherently makes decision making easier because you don’t have any option except to avoid the tank duel as a dps or support, or you can counterswap and shut them down.

With 2 tanks, but each tank itself being equal in power to other roles gives you more option. You can realistically fight any of the 6 enemies.

If you didn’t get offensive value on support in 6v6 doesn’t mean that the role was “easier”. You just played it wrong. The offensive value was always there, but you needed a brain and skill to access it, instead of being handed the offensive value for free to you, and being told what to do like in 5v5.

Does support have a lower skill floor on 6v6? Sure, i will give you that. It’s easier to get a baseline value on support in 6v6 by sitting behind your tank and healbotting.

But does supprt require less skill in 6v6? Not even close. The skill ceiling is significantly higher. If you actually played the game right in 6v6, which most people didn’t(and still don’t ig), you would know how much more skill 6v6 requires
