Why 480 So Bad Last Few Days?

For the past few days 480 going west in the afternoon has doubled my commute time from normal for no discernible reason. I haven't seen any new construction or accidents, but it's like bumper to bumper for half my commute and then just... goes back to normal suddenly after passing 77? What has been going on? I sure hope it stops soon.
