And so the road trip ends!
If you've been following my posts you're likely aware I bought a new 24' RS and after only 2 weeks of ownership took it on a cross country trip! Put over 3500 miles on it by doing so :) Currently sitting at just over 5k miles. During this trip my Trax saw the deserts of the Southwest, the high plains, the Mississippi River, the forests of the North East, and even the hustle and bustle of New York City. Saw many cities like Albuquerque, OKC, Tulsa, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Columbus, Philadelphia, New York, Hartford, and Boston.
All in all my thoughts on the Trax is that I couldn't be happier. This trip was harsh for a new vehicle as the Trax was loaded to capacity (I mean literally every space was packed with luggage including the roof rack) making it heavier than is typical. Yet it made it from Scottsdale AZ, to my new home in Marlborough MA comfortably and without issue. The only occupants were me, and my pupper Charlie.
Having been the type of gal to only buy old cars the technology in the RS concerned me however those concerns turned into happiness. The adaptive cruise control and lane assist made those long stretches of barren highway much more manageable while the entertainment system made for a ride that felt more relaxing. During the trip my Trax saw scorching southwest heat, dirt trails (sight seeing!), high elevation above 6000ft, and a rain storm from Indianapolis to Philadelphia. The really bright head lights really came in handy when crushing through the darkness of the desert, or the forests of the Midwest. Never once on my trip did I feel in danger, nor did I worry about reliability after the first day of driving.
My only real complaint was the seats are definitely not designed for long distance as my rear began to hurt just 3 hours in forcing me to stop and buy a memory foam pad which helped tremendously. Didn't experience any further pain. Lumbar support could definitely be better. Also, this isntban issue, just something I personally can't stand and that's the auto off at stop lights. I turned it off, it drove me nuts. Most people do seem to like it so that's not a problem, just a feature I could love without.
Id say if you're a single person with no kids like me looking for a car that will quite literally get you everywhere this is the car to consider. For what you get in today's market it's a hard vehicle to beat at its price point.
Averaged 24 MPG - remember, it was HEAVY due to all my stuff being crammed into it. Your mileage without such a heavy load may be significantly better so don't take my MPG's as normal.
Roof rack set up: - cross bars purchased from Amazon - basket is a "Haul Master" from Harbor Freight
