Barefoot at the Statue of Wisdom: Oh, the Irony
So here I am, a humble tourist at the Thiruvalluvar statue of wisdom in Kanyakumari, hopping barefoot across sun-scorched tiles because, apparently, wisdom demands sweaty feet and burnt soles.
Respect, they said. tradition, they said. Sure, fine!
But wait, when someone dares suggest adorning Thiruvalluvar with a Kaavi robe, the DMK goes into full meltdown mode, shouting “sangithanam” like it’s the end of secularism as we know it.
Excuse me? Is this not the same sangithanam when we’re all shoe/slipper-less in the name of reverence? Or does political ideology suddenly outweigh the “wisdom” that this statue is ironically supposed to stand for?.
For the record, I don’t want Thiruvalluvar in kaavi either. The man wrote about universal truths, not fashion statements. But can we at least agree that the DMK’s outrage starter pack is as consistent as the Chennai weather forecast?
I think we should start calling it the Statue of Selective Wisdom from now on.
P.S not sure if this started after the glass bridge came into service but felt very stupid going barefoot! ¯_(ツ)_/¯
