Why is God silent?

I understand the reason God doesn’t just appear to the entire world. If he were to do that the people who still do not believe he exists would have to be judged far far harsher. We can’t say “I didn’t know, I didn’t believe you were the one that revealed himself to everything! I thought that was a natural phenomenon!” Not to mention the people who do know he exists would also be judged far harsher for sinning.

Then where would it stop? Would he have to reveal himself over and over and over again for every generation all the time?

But, why not privately? When we ask? When we pray silently and ask for some sort of connection, there’s nothing. Even further, the people who do have some sort of vision or visit, why do they get it when others don’t?
