large cats ripping baseboard heaters off the wall

I just moved into a house with electric baseboard heaters and my idiot children (both >15 lbs.) have ripped one of the units off the wall by climbing on it. Any ideas for how I might deter them from climbing on the heaters?

Double-sided tape is not an option because the heater will melt it and scent-based deterrents are not ideal because these heaters are in every room of the house and I'd still like the cats to like, hang out with me in the living room (also idk if the oils in those sprays would burn on the heater but it seems likely).
