To neuter or not to neuter

UPDATE: Thank you everyone sooo much for all your replies, they’ve been very helpful. Update: he got neutered yesterday and has been recovering well. 🙏

….

Hello, this is my first time owning a cat, I found him on the street in May when he was just a baby. Vet said estimated birthday is 20th of March, so he was about like a month and a half when I found him. He now will be 6 months on the 20th.

From the start I knew that I’ll be neutering him, and now the vet said he’s ready any time to do the procedure. Yesterday I started reading some things that alarmed me idk.

What’s the best option? Neuter or not neuter? He is a completely indoor cat. I would hate to be doing something that will feel like shit to him just because it’s more comfortable to me or something like that, but I do realize that it could be better for him as well.

I’m worried his personality will change. I’m worried he’ll know he lost his balls haha, and get depressed. He’s a very playful boy with lots of energy, and also soooooo sweet and cuddly, he’s very nice with everyone, and like generally a well behaved boy.

So yeah will it change his personality?? Will he not be as energetic and playful??? Is this a good age to neuter? Or is it too early/too late?

Also I’m just generally nervous and anxious about his well being during the surgery and after the surgery and etc... Or any discomfort he might feel during this whole process.

Please let me know your cat expert opinions haha, thank you.
