Strange Encounter at 3am

My girlfriend and I left a party at 3am and started our way home (I WAS DD). While we stopped at basically the first set of lights, this car with NY plates pulled up, I'm not in NY and for the purpose of not doxxing I will just say I am in the tri-state area. I looked over and there were 3 dudes in the car all with ski masks on and they pulled up staring at us hard. I didn't really know what to think, but then driver started bobbing his head, so I did too. I don't know if this made him laugh or smile cause his eyes squinted, and then right after they pulled off at the red light and started doing the wave with the car (like going left to right, right to left, basically the shape of a wave iykwim. Lowkey i don't know how dangerous the situation could have turned, but I feel a little lucky it turned out the way it did. Just had to tell someone because, I don't know, I'm still trying to understand it. Would love to hear what someone else has to say about this, etc. Thanks
