Settings gains with o'scope

Just a quick question. when setting gains with my scope, ive always just used the RCA and never had to check the signal coming out of the head units speaker outputs but on a guys car im doing, hes using head unit speaker outputs for doors and sub out RCA for sub amp. Do I check which ever clips first and set it there or just check the signal on the sub output RCA's?
