Cured my candida by eating a zero carb/carnivore diet for 2 months.
I'll keep this pretty short. I've tried all sorts of supplements that seem common around here. I previously spent hundreds of dollars on supplements. Stuff like oregano oil, moldybenum, cycliphic acid, and even weirder stuff like spirits of terpentine. These kind of worked, I remember one shit I had in particular that is easily a top 5 of mine when I started using all these supplements, it came out like a train and my brain fog and other issues were instantly better. But of course the fungus adapted and the supplements lost their efficacy. And they did nothing to curb the awful, uncontrollable, and monstrous cravings for carbs and sugar I had.
I would wake up every morning and scrape off a half inch of thrush and spend 5-10 minutes in the shower trying to suck that shit out of my sinuses. It was terrible. I felt trapped. I couldn't justify the supplements anymore and didnt have the discipline to stick to super picky and complex diets.
Enter shawn baker and mikhaila peterson on the joe rogan podcast. I heard these two talk about how they both went carnivore for different reasons but had amazing results on it. Shawn for general health mikhaila for auto immune. I thought, my life sucks, my health is shit, and i want to kill myself every day so why not. I spent a couple months researching it to make sure I wasn't going to make things worse and after finding very reasonable answers to every objection I could think of i went HAM on it.
The diet is simple. 90-100% of your food comes from 4 legged ruminants, preferably beef. I would typically eat cheap ribeyes from kroger, daily liver in the form of braunschweiger, eggs, bacon, jello, scallops, and heavy cream. I would also drink bone broth as often as i could get my hands on it and towards the end of the diet i was eating marrow straight from the bone. I did have fish occasionally as well, if i had more money i would have simply gone with salmon roe. Though brains contain similar or better levels of dha.
What happened to me? Reductions in anxiety, depression. I had diverticuliutis that has gotten better, my bowel movements are healthier, i have less bloating and gas. You can find tons of carnivore eaters who do stool and gut testing and they frequently come up in the 90th% percentile of gut health and diversity. Which is not what you would expect but explains how i was able to go back to an omnivore diet and improve my health. I look at sugar and carbs on the counter and am able to resist that shit easily. I had floaters go away. My tinnitus went away. I lost like 15lbs of fat and put on almost 5lbs of muscle or more. Previously I had to nap a ton. Now my energy was limitless. Then and now I believed it to be a near ideal diet for humans. I couldn't believe how good i felt. Even more interesting was how for the first time in my life i would put a plate down when i was full. I have never had a good understanding of my hunger signals until this diet. Its incredible. Initially i would find myself disgusted with the amount of meat I had to eat. I shortly after realized that these were hunger signals I was misinterpreting. If i had carbs of some kind i would keep eating. But with meat, when i'm hungry its the best thing in the world, juicy and tender and filling, when full however it had no attraction to me.
I did have some complaints though.
1) Its boring as fuck. Jeesus I got tired of eating the same thing. Its also kind of expensive though you get really good at finding deals when you only have 5-10 items you regularly eat. Towards the end of the carnivore I was spending about the same i did before or slightly more as an omnivore.
2) I had bad cramping and even drinking snake juice(electrolyte water -potassium, magnesium citrate, himalayan salt w/ iodine). I've heard this explained that our bodies get so much of these minerals normally that its used to just pissing them away. I hear people say that this tends to stop about 6-12 months into the diet.
3) It can be expensive. Grass fed is not only better it tastes so much better. Grass fed fat tastes like butter, grain fed fat can be a chore to chew and eat because it is tough and flavorless unless impeccably cooked.
4) there are no longetivity studies on the diet. So even though i felt AMAZING science was telling me i was gonna die. You have a few people have been doing this for 20 years, more for 10, and even more for 5. Most people however have been on the diet for less than 5 years and all the info you get is anecdotel.
That said. It has greatly impacted my life. It has fixed my candida. Rebalanced my gut biome. And given me a new appreciation for my health, wealth, and life. When money is no longer tight I will be going back onto the diet. For now i'm enjoying carbs again. If candida creeps back I'll simply go zero carb again for a few weeks or as a long as i feel my body telling me.
I really want to emphase perhaps the most amazing thing about this diet is how clear signals from your body become on this. It can be thought of as an extreme elimination diet and introducing a single food item at a time you can learn so much about how your body reacts to it.
I'm here to answer any questions ya'll might have. I also apologize for poor formatting and typos because I'm not gonna fix it lol.
