All the things I hate about season 2
I know this sub's opinion is generally positive but I need to whine about season 2 somewhere and I thought I'd attack this subreddit with my radicle thoughts lol. I hated season 2. It was dreadful. If the book was an 8/10 this season was a 3/10 and I only give it that mark due to the Featherington subplot lol. I love a goo heist. Okay now to list my frustration:
Acting
- The ever-fleeting accents of the New lord Fetherington (American, British, and a tad of Irish at times) and the Sharmas (switching between that Indian accent and then perfect English;Great example of this is E3 where Elosie is talking to Kate and Kate losses her accent midway). Also plot-wise, if Edwina was also raised in India why is it that only Kate displays an accent (sometimes).
- I must say the actress for Miss Edwina gives everything such enthusiastic puppy eyes that I wonder if her sympathetic system is on a 100 or she's so genuinely surprised and enthusiastic about everything?
The writing
- Did the casting call say Mary's role was non-speaking with as little screen time as possible? They demolished the perfect family dynamic between Kate, Edwina, and Lady Mary that J.Q built in her book.
- Why is Kate so rude to Lady D? It makes no sense! Having the new lead be rude and snobbish without reason towards one of the series's darling side characters was such a wrong decision!
- Feminism isn't hating men Eloise. That's radicle feminism. I live in a country where people assume that feminism is being anti-man, and such TV shows and representations of this notion creates this mindset and give arrogant misogynist bastards leverage to label all feministic acts as anti-man
The whites men club? Really? That's a really creative name. LOL. Mind you the duke was also a customer of the whites men club. Make of that what you wish.It seems this is an actual and historical club- Anthony's trauma by his father's death should've been displayed as a motivation for his sudden interest to find a wife before he reaches his father's age and presumably passes away, as, in the books, it shouldn't have been introduced in episode 3. Also, I dislike how they exchanged the fear of dying for the fear of breaking one's heart. This man literally had his heart broken in season 1, he's no heartbreak virgin! This bit just frustrates me beyond comprehension. Out of the Bridgerton books I've read, Anthony's book makes much more sense and has more depth (Sorry J.Q some of your books and pretty shallow) so to take a good structure and ruin it, is something I didn't think they would do.
- Why would the grandparents correspond with the step-sibling they despise so much in matters of finance? wouldn't they feel like the stepsibling would only contact them to steal the inheritance?
- What was the lead-up to the bane of my existence declaration? there was no follow-up to it? Yesterday I hated you and I've only ever lusted you so that surely means that I truly love you! Tada. I know you guys love Simon Ashley but I think she didn't possess enough acting experience for a role this big. She couldn't really display emotions through her face and in turn, I think Jonathan Bailey couldn't make all the chemistry up himself so *get's ready to runaway from your pitchforks* they didn't sell the relationship to me.
- Seriously who's idea was it to make Edwina fall in love with Anthony?
The production
- The balls are so boring, small, and uncreative in comparison to season 2. Overall season 2 is so visually underwhelming
- They shouldn't have given Kate shoulder-padded dresses.
- Daddy Bridgerton is way too young in the flashbacks! He's giving friend vibes rather than a father.
- The music is slow and sad, like the progress of the story. lol.
- The short scene of Anthony in the bathroom was such a cheap trap shot for the book readers (episode 5)
- The editing cut off so many conversations midsentence. Who did the editing and why did they mess up?
In the end, I must thank the palmal scene, Daphne, Benedict's Tulip vest ( I want it lol), Mr.Dorset, the cake-eating jeweler for saving this season. Edwina-gate and Eloise's messy subplot was the bane of our downfall lol.
