How are people suddenly showing up and tens of thousands follow them?

They migrate from X or not, and all of a sudden I'm seeing people with over 100k followers. This was not the case just a couple months ago. You would have to engage 24/7 to get that number of followers in just a month. How are these people creating new accounts and suddenly getting a huge following?
