My verdict after finishing the game in roughly 50 hours
Alright, so I just finished BMW and I also did a lot of the side quests, bosses etc. I didn't fight Erlang though, just for one reason which is also my biggest problem with the game: the amount of bosses. At one point, I just wanted to get it done. I had no clue how many bosses will be there but I really think the overall quality of bosses is definitely lower compared to other games. Plenty of fights felt rather repetitive and/or annoying. Also chapter 6 as a whole was just a huge disappointment as it's just a boss hub and you need to finish 4 bosses to get to the final boss which is actually a total of 4 fights again, really?! The world, narrative and graphics are top-notch, of course, but the gameplay with the enormous skill tree? Not sure if I like that I barely unlocked 1/3 of the skills in my first run. I'm not really a NG+ guy so it just feels like missing out on a majority of skills because the skill tree is so huge. At last, I know that there is a secret ending, the true ending, when defeating Erlang first. I also thinks it's cool to add a secret ending, BUT I think there should be two general endings, maybe depending on your decisions, but getting the bad ending as its the default one feels rather disappointing after finishing a game after 50 hours. I'm not sure how much this is based on the story of JTTW of course, but still, quite disappointing. Overall I would still give a 7/10 as I really enjoyed the first 4 chapters, except the third was way too long imo, and we can't leave out the fact it's the devs first AAA title. So: PROS: World design and setting, Graphics, Storytelling, cutscenes etc, fighting system is fun
CONS: too many bosses, skill tree too huge
Not spitting facts, just my opinion, so I'm up for discussions. :)
