End game question

I can't beat erlang, I'm on attempt # 40 at this point. My question is, if j just skip him, and go finish the story I'm assuming that means I'll get the bad ending. Can I just try again on ng+ for the good ending and try again with erlang then? Or do I have to do it on this playthrough cause I'm already here
