Ranking Bedstuy’s SECs

The other day I saw someone on here ask about the best sausage egg and cheese in bed stuy. I get one like once a week at whatever deli is convenient, but it inspired me to compare and contrast to find the best one. I’ve been keeping my little reviews in my notes and figured i would share!

Green Park Gourmet

Order: Sausage, egg, and cheese on a roll, mayo, ketchup, salt, and pepper Price: $5 Sausage: Boar’s Head patty, probably beef, and very thick. While beef patties aren’t necessarily a dealbreaker, this one just wasn’t the best. Egg: Slightly overcooked but still fine for a deli sandwich. Cheese: Boar’s Head American cheese, standard amount despite what the photo might suggest. Bread: Roll with no seeds, lots of semolina, kind of flat and chewy compared to the fluffier rolls, which doesn’t sound great but worked really well. No pinwheel shape on top. Bread was a highlight for sure. Condiment Ratio: Generous, and perfectly balanced for condiment lovers. Size: Big boi—filling and hearty. Taste: Solid sandwich overall, just slightly held back by the quality of the beef patty. The bread was a standout, soft and fresh. I’d rate this a 6.5. Almost as good as Rafael, but the sausage patty could’ve been better.

Natural Mini Mart

Order: Sausage, egg, and cheese on a roll, mayo, ketchup, salt, and pepper Price: $5 Sausage: Boar’s Head pork link, which gave it a nice twist compared to the usual patty, though the texture could vary. Egg: Not scrambled evenly, with slight variations in color, but not overcooked. Standard deli egg quality. Cheese: Boar’s Head American cheese, a typical deli choice. Bread: Roll, no seeds, with a pinwheel shape on top. Condiment Ratio: Could have used more, especially for someone who loves extra sauce. Size: Slightly smaller than Rafael’s but still quite satisfying. Taste: Overall a good sandwich but fell short on the sauce, which can make a big difference. If they had added just a little more, it would’ve been much better. Still solid but not standout. Rating: 6.

Rafael Deli Grocery

Order: Sausage, egg, and cheese on a roll, mayo, ketchup, salt, and pepper Price: $4 Sausage: Boar’s Head pork patty, thinner than expected but still flavorful. Egg: Standard deli eggs, scrambled and folded. Slightly overcooked IMO, but not bad in the context of the sandwich (I kind of expect deli eggs to be s little overcooked). Cheese: Great Lakes American cheese, melty, and they used a generous amount for that perfect ooey-gooey. Bread: Roll with no seeds, smooth top, no pinwheel. Crusty on the outside but still soft/fluffy on inside. Condiment Ratio: Great—enough sauce on both sides to satisfy even the condiment queen. Size: A big sandwich, measuring from the tip of your middle finger to the thumb joint. Definitely hearty. Taste: A solid deli sandwich (very into the link sausage, have never had it that way), better than most, with good flavor and texture balance. The condiments and cheese were highlights, the sausage was good. Not the absolute best out there, but perhaps the cheapest. Rating: 7

Where should I go next?

Also, can someone explain to me the difference between a soft roll, hard roll and kaiser roll? Which ones do delis serve?
