Traffic violation for using phone.

Hello there.

I visited a friend in Australia who received a $1,700 fine for using his phone while driving on his way to see me and 10 demerits points on New year.

He has asked me to provide my international driving license so he can nominate me as the driver, assuring me that he would handle the fine and debt settlement with NSW authorities.

However, the process requires my passport number. Do you think it’s a good idea to share this information?

Though he is a very good friend, I still wanted a second opinion.
