Is this it? Inhaler twice a day for life?

I (48M) started showing symptoms of asthma about two years ago. No family history on either side, allergy testing came back negative and in that period I moved cross country with no change to symptoms. Otherwise healthy, exercise regularly, healthy weight, but wake up daily with restricted breathing and wheezing and symptomatic again usually by mid day r early evening.

After several visits and tests (stress test and three separate PFTs), no less than three doctors have just said that I should use my Symbicort twice daily, rescue inhaler when needed., and just…live with it. VA linked it to serving near a burn pit back in 2013 and is providing benefits.

But is that really it? Is it just me and inhalers the rest of my days?
