New Manager doesn’t trust me and Micromanaging—What Should I Do?
I’ve been at my company for 1.5 years, starting as an intern and progressing to a senior position due to strong performance. My previous manager was happy with my work, but after recent restructuring, I was assigned a new manager who seems inexperienced.
Since day one, my new manager has doubted me and made comments like, “preparing me for interviews at other organizations “as part of my learning.” On her first day working with me, she tried to negatively spotlight me by CC’ing everyone in an email, saying I missed the last team meeting—when in fact, I was on approved leave that day. When I responded, she called me to say, “Oh, that was my mistake to CC everyone,” but it felt intentional.
On top of that, she constantly asks me to provide evidence for my work and spends a lot of time checking up on me—whether it’s reviewing minor details or even observing where I’m sitting in the office. I find myself spending more time replying to her messages than actually working.
Her behavior is causing me a lot of stress and mental pressure. I feel like I’m being unfairly judged and possibly pushed out, despite my strong track record and the faith my previous manager had in me.
Should I escalate this to HR or senior management? Most likely they will change my team. Or am I overreacting to the situation? How do I deal with a manager who seems inexperienced, doesn’t trust me, and creates such a micromanaging environment?
