Which political party is going to cause the least "brain drain" in the next election?

As a young person in the software industry, the United States makes a very appealing value proposition for me to work there instead of Canada.

I would get paid 2-4x the amount for the same work, have a fraction of the cost of living, and not pay 50+% of my income in taxes. Maybe I would actually be able to afford a down payment on a house in my lifetime, so I can start a family instead of being a rent slave forever... It also seems like Elon is going to push the incoming US administration to issue more H-1B visas, such that the USA ends up with the best engineers.

I definitely don't want to leave my friends and family in our beautiful, scenic country. But I feel like if the government keeps going in the same direction, destroying the Canadian economy by virtually every metric, and the US tariffs hit Canada, then my hand might be forced... Continuing to tax businesses and skilled workers at ~50+% will grind foreign investment to a near-halt and expedite the "brain drain" / export of our most skilled workers. Why would a software-as-a-service company register themselves in Canada when they can just register themselves elsewhere to pay less tax? Higher taxation rates clearly do not necessarily mean that more taxes are collected.

This week the Liberal leadership front-runner Mark Carney went on "The Daily Show" where he discussed bringing universal basic income (UBI) to Canada. My gut feeling says that UBI will not help with our productivity problem. It feels like the government is incentivizing me to not work very hard and to get on the legalized weed.

When I tout the potential economic benefits of becoming the 51st US state, I'm called a traitor. I see so many benefits to joining the United States and so few downsides.

  • Personally, it would open so many doors for employment in the US tech industry while also allowing me to remain in the country I love.
  • It would probably lower our taxes by moving us closer to a meritocracy and away from socialism.
  • It would reduce the price of goods & services to make housing & groceries more affordable.
  • We could get off our collapsing Canadian dollar.
  • We could have the new United States D.O.G.E. audit the immense amount of wasteful & fraudulent spending in the Canadian government. (e.g. ArriveCan app scandal, Trudeau billing his $223,000 food bill on the private jet to the taxpayer, unnecessary government departments, etc.)

Obviously, we would need to have clauses in the Canada-US merger that would prevent them from just completely ransacking our natural resources. But overall, it seems like it would clearly do less harm than good for the failing Canadian economy. So I'm in favour of joining the US, but I'm also open to other solutions that would achieve the same outcomes as above, while maintaining our sovereignty.

What are your thoughts? Should I be charged with treason for making this post? Which political party has the best plan to make Canada productive again without joining the US? Despite Pollievre being a bit of a twat with all his slogans, I'm still leaning towards voting that way as his party seems to be the only party that agrees that we have over-spending & over-taxation problems. I'd like to hear the left-leaning Redditors' thoughts. I think we can all agree that slashing bureaucracy, cutting taxes, and holding government figures accountable for wasteful spending would help Canadians. Or maybe we can't agree on that? Do we need to vote NDP/Liberal to raise/maintain taxes and to spend more in the short-term on universal basic income, subsidized education, etc. to make ourselves more productive and economically competitive in the long run?
