Canada took in 40,000+ refugees fleeing the Assad regime in Syria. With recent news of his regime falling, how does the Canadian government plan to repatriate the folks to their country?
Has there ever been a precedent for this?
Edit: whoever is resorting to name calling, you are not helping your case. As of August 2024, over a million Ukrainians have returned to their country.

Why do we believe one group can and is able to return but another cannot? I have zero problems our foreign ministry working with Turkey who is backing one of the rebel groups and ensure safe passage for people to go home. I also don’t see an issue providing assistance with building Syria back.
Edit 2: to those talking about planting roots, we are talking about a period of roughly 5-7 years. It’s long but no different than a student studying for a degree or an expat family moving for a job. We have a cold climate, a different culture. Would it not be more noble to help these folks go home, help them build their country with Canadian values, dissuade extremists to take hold and have an ally in the process?
If despite of all of this, your reply is something along the lines of racist or monster or another tired meme, you misunderstood the entire point of this post.
