What do Australians think of immigrants?

Just got married in Sydney 2 weeks ago, and looking at moving here with my partner in the near future (he is currently an engineer on work visa). I know that a huge part of Australia’s population is from immigration, and that we are coming in droves. Also aware of the housing crisis and cost of living issues. How do Aussies feel about all this? Is there also a negative sentiment on legal migration? Any growing prejudices against people coming from a particular country? Sorry if I am asking inappropriate questions, I just want to know the current sentiment.
