Americans that moved from one region/state to another- were you able to maintain your accent or did you adopt the local accent?

I know it's common for Americans to move regionally. What's happens to your accent when you move from let's say New York to Alabama (or any 2 states). Does your accent change or are you able to keep your original accent (or do you end up with a hybrid accent, lol)?
