Do Americans generally know the different words for objects/things in other countries?

For example, what you call trash can, in Australia we call rubbish bin, or the trunk (of a car) is called a car boot here, or trolley is our word for shopping cart. Oh and what you call a diaper, we call a nappy. And whatever they call things in the UK etc. I catch myself sometimes writing the American word for things because I'm not sure you'll get what I'm talking about in replies. Just curious to know!
