Idea for alternate college admissions
Applying to Ivies really sucks. Writing essays and showing off your ecs, grades, and test scores just takes so much time for everyone involved, because you spend years of your life doing it and AOs have to review it, etc—what a waste! Even if you do everything right and have perfect stats, then it’s still down to complete luck whether you get in or not.
I have a proposal for a better admission process. We divide the US into 12 different regions, maybe called sectors or districts or something (international students fall into a somewhat-ambiguous 13th district). Then every year when it comes time for college apps, each district sends the promising students who are seeking a spot in Ivy League schools to an event held in Washington DC (it’s the capital, it’s only fitting it would happen here). Then we make a big arena where all the students can show firsthand their skills and talents and why they deserve to go to their schools of choice. After there’s only a few left, those kids get to go to the schools!
Now, you might be pointing out some problems with this plan, like how AOs wouldn’t have jobs or how violence is bad. Well, we can institute a gambling system to make up for lost revenue, a way where people can bet on which kids will get into the schools. As for the violence, this perfectly solves the problem of people not getting into their dream schools because now, 100% of the people who make it out of the event (maybe call it games or something) go to a school of their dreams!
