Bosch 800 Dishwasher Rant
sigh
I just want to rant a bit here. Three months ago, our old dishwasher started going on the fritz. It still works ok, but isn't getting up to temperature, and so we knew it would be time for a new one soon. This is our first home (and planning for it to be a forever home), so I knew I wanted to get a high quality replacement.
I did SO. MUCH. RESEARCH. Checked into every little detail, and finally decided on the Bosch 800. One concern that I had was with Delay Starting. We use delay start frequently because we like to run the dishwasher overnight. We do this for a number of reasons, but primarily to avoid water conflicts since my wife showers in the evening due to her work schedule, and we're on a well system.
I noticed that the Bosch 800 has some wifi connectivity, which also made me apprehensive - I don't like the idea of features being potentially stuck behind a pay wall, and while I can appreciate some of the notification features....I mean, it's a dishwasher - it will run and then once it's done, it'll stop. It's not a really a time-dependant thing.
With these two concerns in mind, I called Bosch Customer Service with some specific questions: Is the wifi component optional or necessary? Does it limit any functionality if we don't have wifi enabled? How easy is the delay start to use?
Bosch was great at eliminating my concerns - the wifi was separate, all features could be controlled from the control panel, delay start had a dedicated button that would control up to a 14 hour delay for my preferred setting. Yippee! With this knowledge in hand, I ordered a brand new 800 from ABT (No big box store here!). It arrived in perfect condition, and I had a respected local plumber install it - also Bosch approved.
And guess what? In between the time that I reached out to Bosch Customer Service, and the time I ordered the dishwasher (maybe a week), they upgraded the washer somehow. Now, not only is the wifi built into the unit, BUT I NEED TO USE THE APP TO SET THE EFFING DELAY START. I guess the 'old' (last week?!?!?) ones had the dedicated button, but now they just decided that it needs to be in an app?!?!
Ok, no problem, this is first world stuff - surely this isn't a huge issue. BUT THE STUPID APP DROPS CONNECTION EVERY DAY. We've had the damn thing for a week now, and it's dropped connection 5 times. I've gone back and forth with Customer Service and their adamant it's a network issue on my side. ABT won't fully return the item since it's been unboxed, installed and used, and honestly another 800 would just have the same issues.
I just want to set my damn dishwasher to run overnight.
I'll admit that when it cleans, it does a good job - it's silent, has great storage, and is overall a very nice product, but WHY THE HELL do I need an app???
/End rant.
