Structured workouts on WatchOS 11 - not quite there yet

As I'm getting closer to the start of the new triathlon training block, I've decided to try and see how do the new structured workouts on Apple Watch work for swimming. I always train "by Garmin" (in a sense that Garmin devices - Forerunner 955 watch and Edge 1030+ bike computer - are my primary training tools and guide me through the structured training loaded onto them), but out of curiosity I wanted to see how would Apple Watch perform (as typically I use it only as a backup tracker).

I've created a very basic interval workout: 200m warmup, 5 intervals of 200m effort with 10s rest and a 200m cooldown. Except the fact that you need to create the workout on the watch, the overal experience is very nice.

The experience of using it in the pool - not so much. It correctly counts the distance, time and pace (obviously), however the guidance part is simply not there. For example, Garmin notifies you about the end of a block with a strong vibration and a buzzer (which can be disabled) when you start the last lane (i.e. in my case it would be at 175m), so when I feel the buzz, I know that I can stop after this lane. Apple Watch notifies you after you finish the block. In all my intervals I had to finish the block and push from the wall again only to feel a faint "tap" from Apple Watch that signalled the end of the interval. It's barely noticeable - especially if you're tumble-turning at a high speed.

So, in the end, while the functionality is present, it's not ready for the prime time yet.
