A question about Android longevity and long term support VS Apple.

I am thinking about moving from iPhone to an Android device. I have had my iPhone 7 for eight years now and although it is outdated and a little sluggish, I am still getting security updates from Apple. Could I expect the same longevity from an Android device today at the same price point?

I know that Android 7.0, which was released at roughly the same time as the iPhone 7 (late 2016) stopped getting security updates in October 2019. Is it still the case that Android devices get shorter support periods?
