Why 2-2’s culprit is the only sympathetic culprit that works ~Discussion~

Ace Attorney doesn’t really have much culprits that they try to paint as sympathetic, they have made four attempts at making a culprit sympathetic, with the culprits being: 2-2’s Ini/Mimi Miney, 2-3’s Acro, 6-3’s Tahrust(Side note, I’m not including Beh’leeb, because her case is justified self-defense, which is not what I’m looking for here).I’ll keep 2-2 for last so you understand what I mean. Of course 2-2, 2-3, and 6-3 spoilers so if you haven’t played any of these don’t proceed further.

Note:I am not including 5-DLC, because I’m just counting killers, not accidents

Acro, 2-3

Acro’s case is ….. interesting. He didn’t plan on killing the ringmaster, he wanted to kill Regina and he regrets it. They tried to paint him as sympathetic, but in my opinion, they failed here. I understand his pain, Regina quote-unquote “made” Regent(the tiger)Attack Bat, and put him in a coma. He is Acro’s brother. However as we’ve seen in that case, Regina is too innocent. She thinks people become stars when they die. Again I understand his pain but she is a child. She certainly thinks like one.

Tahrust Inmee, 6-3

Tahrust really got my liking, I mean he committed suicide to protect his wife from being jailed, possibly executed, for the simple reason of defying the government. I know how he feels, very well in fact. I’m from a country that fought a heroic revolution against its government for 13 years straight. We were put in prisons where we were tortured by our government just for protesting. So I related to him A LOT. And when I finished it I thought the case to be my favorite in the whole series, just due to how much I related to it………

But then, I sat there for a minute. I thought this rationally, then I aksed myself:

“Why did Tahrust try to frame Maya?” This was literally when I no longer thought of him as “Sympathetic” why would you frame an innocent person? Why????? He was so close.. so close to being my favorite. If it weren’t for that the title of this post would be: “Why 6-3’s culprit is the best attempt at a sympathetic culprit” But as it stands, for this reason I can’t say that I thinks he is a “good” Sympathetic culprit. I definitely do think he is a way better attempt at it than Acro’s and can see where he’s coming from.

Ini/Mimi Miney, 2-2

“That was… no accident…

I was drugged… with sleeping pills…

I was murdered… by that person…

That’s why… I took… my revenge…

It’s only fair… Isn’t it… …Ini?”

It is, it is.

Mimi’s killing of Dr. Grey was very much warranted, as a nurse, imagine being so pressured by your boss, being worked go hell and back, that you end up half-asleep, and that you end up killing 14 patients accidentally, and that you end up in a car accident… how can you live normally after that even if you survived? The difference between her and Tahrust is she didn’t frame Maya, she just went alongside Morgan’s plan….

And on an unrelated note her Reminiscence theme, scars etched by flame, literally the best Reminiscence theme made and the hardest name for a music track ever.

And alas, this is all I have to say. Feel free to discuss!
