I've changed my mind about Eddie's parents
I used to think the dislike towards Eddie's parents was overblown. I mean Shannon didn't seem to have any of her own family nearby, offering her support with Chris, because they would have been shown/mentioned. Her mother definitely lived in another state. Add in the fact that they were both young, first time parents, with a medically frail child, and Eddie's job kept him away, I felt that Shannon actually needed his parents to step up. Then when Shannon ran off, Eddie was the one who needed there help.
But now with this separation between Chris and Eddie, I feel differently. As Grandparents they should not be facilitating the long term separation between father and son, with no plans to reunite them under the same roof. The fact that Chris now lives so far away, is blocking Eddie from playing a real part in his son's life, which also reduces any chance of reconciliation. Eddie is not an unfit parent, and he is still Chris' legal guardian.
I feel like if they were being supportive of both Chris and Eddie, they would have arranged to have Chris over the summer, but he shouldn't be living with them full-time. Also family therapy for Chris and Eddie should definitely be happening.
