playing 3ds in public

Im trying to pull myself out of a depressive episode so i went to a coffee shop and got a drink and took out my 3ds to play some pokémon x, and got some weird looks from the working on a laptop people. i didn’t even have music on or anything. i don’t really care, but is this a weird thing to do? do you guys play out in public? and if so, where?
